Missionary Life

Missionary Style

  1. The clean-cut, conservative look and manner associated with full-time missionaries: for men a dark suit or white shirt and tie with a missionary haircut, and an overall polished, buttoned-up appearance.

Because missionaries are held to a strict, very recognizable dress and grooming standard, "missionary style" gets used as shorthand for anyone who looks that put-together and wholesome — think crisp white shirt, side part, and a name tag's worth of earnestness. It can be a compliment, a tease, or just a description depending on who's saying it.
