Hold to the Rod
- A phrase used to convey the idea that members should continually follow the teachings of the Church (for their benefit).
This phrase references a vision by an ancient prophet in which he saw a path (that had an iron rod railing) that led to the greatest blessings of heaven. Since this path passed through a thick fog, it is necessary that people continually hold on to the iron rod so that they do not become lost (and not be able to find their way to the blessings). The iron rod represents the gospel (the teachings of the Church) and holding on represents following the gospel.
