Miracle of the Gulls

  1. The 1848 event in which flocks of seagulls ate the crickets devouring the pioneers' first crops, remembered as a divine intervention.

The pioneers credited the gulls with saving them from starvation; the California gull became Utah's state bird, and the Seagull Monument on Temple Square honors the event.
