DTR
- Short for "Define The Relationship" — the conversation where two people who have been dating decide, out loud, what they actually are to each other.
The DTR is where casual dating either becomes something official or gets called off. Are we exclusive? Are we boyfriend and girlfriend? Is this going somewhere? In LDS young-adult culture — where dating is often pointed toward marriage and moves quickly — the DTR carries real weight, and dodging or delaying one is its own well-known form of romantic limbo. It can be used as a noun ("we had the DTR") or a verb ("we need to DTR").
“We need to DTR.”
