Waiting
- When a person promises to abstain from dating other people while their boyfriend/girlfriend is serving a mission.
A promise to wait usually indicates plans to marry once the boyfriend/girlfriend returns from their mission. There are variations in waiting: on one end of the spectrum people promise to restrict contact with the opposite sex while on the other, people keep dating others but stay emotionally committed to their boyfriend or girlfriend. Waiting rarely continues for the full two years, primarily because the person that was waiting found another romantic interest or changed over time while the missionary was away.
