First Vision

  1. Joseph Smith Jr.'s first vision of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in the grove.

As the primary starting point in Church history, the First Vision is considered to be very important and sacred. This vision came about because Joseph read in the Bible (James 1:5) that if any one lack wisdom that they should ask of God. So as a fourteen year old boy he went into a forest grove to ask God which church he should Join. God and Jesus Christ both appeared to him as physical personages and said that none of the churches set up at that time were true. A better account (and video) of this story can be found here (http://www.mormonwiki.com/mormonism/First_Vision).
