Kirtland

  1. The Ohio town that served as an early headquarters of the Church in the 1830s and home of its first temple.

In Kirtland the Saints built the Church's first temple (dedicated 1836) and received many early revelations. Financial troubles and persecution led the body of the Church to move on to Missouri and then Nauvoo.
