Liberty Jail

  1. The jail in Liberty, Missouri, where Joseph Smith and others were held through the winter of 1838–39 during the Missouri persecutions.

During his months in the cramped, cold Liberty Jail, Joseph Smith received revelations of comfort and instruction now found in the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 121–123). It is remembered as a "prison-temple" and is preserved as a Church historic site.
