Missouri Extermination Order

  1. The 1838 order by Missouri Governor Lilburn Boggs declaring that Latter-day Saints must be driven from the state or "exterminated."

Executive Order 44 followed the tensions of the 1838 Mormon War and led to the Saints being expelled from Missouri. It remained on the books until Governor Christopher Bond formally rescinded it in 1976.
