Mission Call
- The official notification from Church headquarters telling a prospective missionary where in the world they will serve and when they are to report.
After a person puts in their papers, they wait — sometimes anxiously — for the call to arrive. It names the mission (which could be anywhere from their home state to the other side of the planet), the language they'll speak, and their report date. Opening a mission call is a whole event: friends and family gather, guesses are placed on where it'll be, and the envelope is read aloud. Historically this came as a physical letter; today the notification is typically delivered electronically.
