Mormon (the Prophet)

  1. The ancient Nephite prophet, general, and record-keeper who abridged the plates that became the Book of Mormon.

Living in the fourth century AD, Mormon led the Nephite armies through their final wars and abridged roughly a thousand years of records onto the golden plates. He was the father of Moroni, who finished and buried the record. The book — and by extension the nickname 'Mormon' — takes its name from him.
