Golden Plates
- The ancient plates of gold on which was engraved the record that Joseph Smith translated into the Book of Mormon.
Latter-day Saints believe the plates were made of actual gold. They were said to have been buried in the hill Cumorah and delivered to Joseph Smith by the angel Moroni, then returned to the angel after the translation was complete. Formal witnesses testified to having seen them.
