Winter Quarters

  1. The temporary settlement near present-day Omaha, Nebraska, where the pioneers wintered in 1846–47 on their way west.

After leaving Nauvoo, thousands of Latter-day Saints camped at Winter Quarters, where hundreds died of cold, disease, and exposure. It served as the main staging point for the trek to the Salt Lake Valley.
