Brigham Young

  1. The second President of the Church, who led the Latter-day Saint pioneers west to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847 and colonized the Great Basin.

Called "the American Moses," Brigham Young succeeded Joseph Smith, directed the pioneer migration, founded Salt Lake City, and served as the first governor of Utah Territory. Brigham Young University is named for him.
