Baptismal Witnesses
- Two people who watch a baptism closely to confirm the person is completely immersed; if any part of the body or clothing is not fully covered, the ordinance is repeated.
Two members stand at the edge of the font and observe. Since a 2019 policy change, the witnesses can be any baptized member of the Church — not only priesthood holders. Because baptism requires full immersion, a witness will quietly signal for it to be done again if a hand, foot, or bit of clothing surfaces — a routine correction, not a problem.
