Temple & Ordinances

Baptism

  1. The ordinance of immersion in water by which a person becomes a member of the Church and receives a remission of sins.

Performed by immersion by one holding priesthood authority, baptism is the first saving ordinance and is required for membership. Children are baptized at the age of accountability (8 years old), and baptism is always followed by confirmation. Baptisms for the dead extend the ordinance to those who died without it.
