John the Baptist

  1. The New Testament prophet who baptized Jesus and, as a resurrected messenger, restored the Aaronic Priesthood.

On May 15, 1829, near Harmony, Pennsylvania, the resurrected John the Baptist appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, conferred the Aaronic Priesthood upon them, and directed them to baptize each other (Doctrine and Covenants 13).
