Record

  1. A file that is kept on every member of the Church for record purposes.

These files hold such information as name, contact information, birth date, and the dates of ordinances like baptism and confirmation. Often they are referred to as the Records of the Church, which is simply a nickname for the records as a whole. When a member moves, their record is transferred to their new ward. Children born into Latter-day Saint families are listed on a record before baptism, though membership formally begins with baptism, which happens no earlier than age eight. When a person's membership is withdrawn, their record is removed from the ward.
