Baby Blessing

  1. An ordinance in which Melchizedek Priesthood holders give a newborn a name and a priesthood blessing, usually during fast and testimony meeting.

The men stand in a circle holding the baby, and one of them, often the father, acts as voice. It isn't a saving ordinance (baptism comes at eight), but it does create the child's Church membership record.
