Blessing

  1. A pronouncement of comfort, counsel, or healing given by the authority of the priesthood through the laying on of hands.
  2. A common word for the many good things members believe come from living the gospel.

Common priesthood blessings include naming and blessing a new baby in sacrament meeting, blessings of healing for the sick (often using consecrated oil), and "father's blessings" given at home. A blessing is spoken as the priesthood holder feels inspired rather than from a set script.
