Nephi
- A prophet near the start of the Book of Mormon who, after his father Lehi led their family out of Jerusalem around 600 BC, became the leader of his own followers (the Nephites) — the first and best known of several men named Nephi in the record.
This first Nephi obtained the brass plates from Laban, built a ship to cross the ocean to the Americas, and began the record that became the Book of Mormon; his name marks its first two books, 1 and 2 Nephi. Later prophets in the book also bear the name Nephi.
