Leadership & Structure

Calling

  1. An assignment to serve in a particular position or responsibility in the Church, extended by local leaders; one is "called" to it and later "released."

Callings are unpaid and staffed from the congregation — everything from teaching Primary to leading a ward. They're understood to come by inspiration, are formally accepted, sustained by the congregation, and eventually released when it's time to move on.
