Transfer
- The reassignment of a missionary to a new companion, a new area, or both, decided by mission leadership.
- Also the block of time (commonly around six weeks) between one round of reassignments and the next.
"Transfers" is both an event and a unit of time — missionaries measure their mission in them ("I have three transfers left"). On transfer day, missionaries learn where and with whom they'll serve next, pack their lives into two suitcases, and move on, sometimes with only a day's notice. Because companionships and areas can change every transfer, a missionary might live in half a dozen different towns and be paired with a dozen different companions over the course of a single mission.
