Atonement

  1. The suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, through which humankind can be forgiven of sin and overcome death.

Central to Latter-day Saint belief, the Atonement includes Christ's suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross. Through it, all people will be resurrected, and those who repent can be cleansed and eventually return to God.
