Temple

  1. A sacred building in which sacred rites and rituals are performed.

LDS doctrine holds that Temples are the most sacred places on Earth and to keep them that way only the pure are allowed to enter. This is why only faithful members with current Temple Recommends are allowed in. Even beyond that, all individuals who enter are required to be wearing all white clothes to represent this purity. Temples are sacred because they are the house of the Lord and as such need to be treated with a great deal of respect. There are over 120 LDS Temples in operation today. A complete listing of all Temples can be found here (http://www.lds.org/temples/geographical/0,11380,1899-1,00.html).
